Because elected officials no longer represent the will of the people. Them become entrenched bureaucrats. They operate off their agenda instead of looking out for the welfare of their constituents. Susceptible to the will lobbyists and activists with deep pockets. No longer interested in the working class population.
It was never about the working class. No longer about right and wrong. It was always about representing those who have the cash to move their agendas through the legislative process. Bribing the officials' who can expedite the process to affect change. Not because it's good for the people but because those who pay expect a return on their investment.
